Beef crisis

Although Nortura's new factory in Malvern has yet to be directly affected; plant manager Sondre Hallseth says there is probably only a matter of days before they will get a feel of the crisis. - We expect to be indirectly affected by the fact that we need to send carcasses to other parts of the country. The consequence is that we get to do less cutting, and it is a daily topic of cnversation, says Hallseth. He says that it is particularly the east and west coast where the lack of meat is most noticeable.The fact that the production of fresh Norwegian beef is at a historically low level is also evident in northern Norway. Nortura communications director, Nina Sundquist, admits that the situation is serious. She notes that the production of beef has declined by two percent each year since 2009. (t-a.no)
